Jeetu Krishnan — OakTree Planners

I was a client before I was a planner

I spent 25 years in professional services (Infosys, Wipro and Accenture) — managing complex engagements, working with CXOs at large organisations across India, the US, and the UK, building multi-million dollar client relationships from the ground up. By any external measure, a successful career. Good income. Meaningful savings. And still — like most professionals I know — no coherent financial plan connecting any of it. Not because I was careless. The industry gave me nothing honest to work with, and I kept assuming I would figure it out when I had more time. More time never arrived.

So I hired a fee-only financial planner. Went through the process. Got clarity. And realised — from the inside — both what good financial planning can do for a person, and how rarely it is actually delivered at the depth it deserves.

"I became financially free. Not by accident — by building a plan, following it through market cycles, and making decisions based on evidence rather than noise. I know it works because I lived it."

That experience — as a client, as an investor through multiple market cycles, as someone who built financial independence from a professional career — is what I bring to every client engagement. Not theory. Lived experience.

Professional rigour that personal finance rarely sees

Financial planning in India is underserved — not for lack of practitioners, but for lack of professional standards applied consistently. I bring four things that are genuinely uncommon in this space.

01

25 years of client delivery at the highest level

I orchestrated multi-million dollar engagements for large global organisations. That work was built entirely on understanding client needs deeply, designing the right solution, and delivering outcomes — not on selling the next product. That orientation is exactly what financial planning requires and rarely gets.

02

Academic rigour built before I advised anyone

CFP® certification from FPSB. Deep study of the research on factor investing, sequence of returns risk, and active versus passive management in Indian markets — not skimmed, absorbed. My own analytical tools interrogating fund performance data. I spent a year building the knowledge base and the processes before I took a single client. The foundation exists. It is not improvised.

03

Experience as an investor through real market cycles

I have not just studied market behaviour — I have lived it as an investor. I know what it feels like when markets fall 40% and every instinct says exit. I know what it takes to stay the course. That experience informs how I build plans and how I support clients when conditions get difficult.

04

A fresh perspective unclouded by distribution habits

I did not come from product distribution. I have no history of earning commissions, no legacy relationships with fund houses, no ingrained habits of recommending what pays rather than what works. I bring professional standards from outside the industry — and I intend to keep them.

This is the person behind the practice. For the methodology, the client-understanding tools, and the session-by-session process itself, see What I Bring.

My principles — stated plainly

These govern every recommendation I make. Not aspirations — operating principles.

01 Cost is the only return you can control with certainty. Every rupee saved in expense ratios compounds in your favour for decades.
02 Behaviour matters more than fund selection. The best fund held badly produces worse outcomes than an average fund held well.
03 Portfolio simplicity over complexity. Eighteen funds is not diversification. A simple, coherent portfolio held consistently outperforms a complex one managed nervously.
04 A plan is a living document. Not a one-time deliverable. Life changes. Markets change. The plan must change with them.
